On the 4th of December, Sarah has a really bad head, so today we’re going to listen to some peaceful and beautiful music, and Sarah is going to try to not be sick. It feels like someone is repeatedly smacking me in the back of the head, with a really heavy…something or other. Also, is your brain supposed to pulse…? =S
Onto today’s musical offering – Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows. Anna-Varney Cantodea is a complicated artist, she does not perform in front of humans, and is very isolated. Her music is…astounding, I think is a good word. I am not going to even touch upon Anna-Varney’s gender, because it is irrelevant. What is important is the music.
I read somewhere that ‘The Ensemble of Shadows’ are…ghosts/spirits (maybe even a hallucination, not 100%, I’m going from memory) that came to Anna, and…made her make the music, or at least influenced her into making the music. Anyone confirm this? Or am I just…creating a background for her…? =/
Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows – Résumé. This track is so melancholy, so lonely…I love it.
Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows – Dead Souls. I filter out the vocals, the violin, everything basically, and try to hear only the bass line…as it’s pure genius.
Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows – Les Fluers du Mal [The Flowers of Evil]. Anything that even mentions anything even remotely to do with Charles Baudelaire, is incredible to me. Bauderlaire aside, this track is stunning.
All of Anna-Varney’s music is sort of…well, a mind-screw (I try to keep my blog clean). Her music is beautiful, tormented, calming, depressive, lonely…this music is incredible, yet will never be recognised en masse as such, because of the artist being what many describe as ‘weird’, or even a freak. How the Hell can anyone who creates such beauty, ever be labelled a freak…? Who the Hell is anyone to judge anyone else? To call others names? Surely your small minded, outdated views make you the freak? Anna-Varney Cantodea is amazing – the struggles, all of the things that have been done to her, and still she survives, carries on. And on top of all the damage done, she still manages to create this mind blowing music…the freaks, are the people that don’t hear the true beauty in her music.
Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows – Imhotep. I absolutely love Anna’s vocals on this track.
Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows – The Sleeper – by Edgar Alan Poe. It’s just pure perfection.
